What do you do when your family situation is desperate, when every effort has failed, when there’s nowhere else to turn? I was a single Mom, working full time. Sarah (not her real name) was my beautiful, sweet, loving little girl. But a rare genetic disease gave her both a developmental disability and epilepsy with seizures that drugs could not control. Daytime seizures brought terrible tantrums, nighttime seizures insomnia and bed-wetting. In her teens, the stress of caring for her became so great that I was losing the ability to function at work and at home. Though it broke my heart, I had to find Sarah a group home to keep her and me safe. But everywhere I turned, no one wanted the extra work of caring for my Sarah. Desperate and near exhaustion, I called my Assemblyman, Sam Hoyt. Within days, he found a group home, my ordeal was over, and Sarah, now living with five other girls her own age, has a nearly normal life: going to school, playing and laughing, eating and sleeping in a house with her best friends. So that is why we must keep Sam Hoyt in office, not for me, but for whomever needs him next. Sam cares deeply about his constituents, and has the experience and connections to help solve their problems.
